The Parish Council meets every month, the date is included in the Sunday bulletins. If you have any items for the agenda contact Ed Aasen at 402-730-1304.

The UNL Orthodox Christian Fellowship hosts a book study during the regular UNL academic year (not during the summer). Contact Richard Fountain for information. All are welcome to attend this study; and no outside reading required! Fr. James Dank of St. John of Kronstadt Orthodox Church, along with Richard Fountain, president of OCF facilitates the discussion. This is a great opportunity to discuss our faith in fellowship with other Christians, Orthodox and non-Orthodox, as well as witnessing to any non-believers who may attend. Beginning in late August 2006, the group meets each Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 in the City Campus Union, room 212 or 213 (please check the calendar as you walk into the Union for confirmation). We will also, if the Lord (and campus facilities) wills, be having Vespers services once a month, same time, same place. (402) 476-4614 (home) (402) 613-0158 (cell)

A Christian Mens Group, called The Father Arseny Society, meets Every Wednesday 8:30pm (often, at Rich Leiter's Home). Contact Rich for questions (730-4567). The Group studies a variety of Christian spiritual elements, as well as being a support group amongst themselves. The group is named after the life of Fr. Arseny. Watch for last minute location or time changes at the FAS discussion group, or Blog. Contact Rich L. on how to join!

Women's Study Group meets at 11:00am every Wednesday, at the Catacomb Bookstore (6510 Holdrege).

Parish Background:

St. John's Parish began in the Spring of 1988 as a small Orthodox Mission. A group of Orthodox Christians bought a house, set up a chapel, and began having bible studies, prayer services and various outreach programs with the hopes of building an Orthodox Church. St. John of Kronstadt was chosen as the patron saint of the mission. The mission continued to grow and in October 1991 the present church building was purchased. Through the direction and guidance of several priests in the OCA, the mission was received into the OCA in the fall of 2000 and became the first OCA Church in Nebraska. The Church follows the Old Calendar.

Fr. James Dank was ordained priest and assigned as rector of St. John's by His Grace, Bishop Job in November 2000. St. John's has continued to grow and has helped found St. Nicholas Mission in Pella, Iowa in 2003, and continues its missionary efforts in Nebraska and the midwest. In January 2004 St. John's was a recipient of a mission planting grant allowing Fr. James to devote all of his time and effort to the building up of Christ's Holy Church.
