The Eastern Orthodox Church has held to the firmness of the faith since the apostolic times and has continued to receive her sacred tradition for 2,000 years. The Orthodox Church practices the original ancient traditions, where those who participate in the one life of Christ through the liturgical cycle and divine mysteries (sacraments) will draw near to God. This process is called "theosis" or "deification" and is a spiritual pilgrimage in which each person strives to become more holy and more "Christ Like" within Jesus Christ. The Divine Liturgy written by Saint John Chrysostom of Constantinople in the 4th century is the liturgy most celebrated today, while Saint Basil's liturgy is celebrated during Lent, and once in awhile St. James the apostle. Below are a few paragraphs concerning the sacraments, scripture, ecumenical councils, and the Nicene Creed. You may go to the Orthodox Church of America website for more information, additional books at the Catacomb bookstore, or talk to a member of the clergy.
